Now that you have chosen your domain name and hosting, you are going to want to start getting ready to monetize your blog.  There are many different ways to monetize your blog and I am not going to cover them all.  I will just cover the ways that will make you the most money with the least effort. Let’s start making money blogging!

Google Adsense

Adsense is the easiest to set up and will make you money without having to sell anything.  Adsense will pay you for impressions of their ads on your site.  Basically, every time an Adsense ad loads for one of your viewers, you make a small amount.  You will make more money if the ad is actually clicked and if items are actually purchased, but there isn’t too much you can do about getting people to do that on your site.  It is like the Field of Dreams, “If you build it, they will come” the more hits your site gets, the more it will happen.  A lot of blogs make really good money on Adsense alone, but they are getting tons of hits (which I will teach you how to do) so <strong>don’t be discouraged</strong> if your earnings sit at $0.45 for a while.  To set up adsense, just go to www.google.com/adsense and fill out the required forms.  Once it is all set up, you can make ads that can be placed anywhere on your page.  The WordPress plugin I use for adsense is <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.linewbie.com/wordpress-plugins/all-in-one-adsense-and-ypn”>All-In-One Adsense and YPN.</a> I tell it what ad sizes I want and based on that, it randomly inserts adsense throughout my page.  It is totally customizable and has worked great so far.

ClickBank

ClickBank is where a lot of people are making tons of money right now.  It allows you to create an account, find products related to your niche and promote them.  Some of the ads pay as much as 75% commission per sale.  For beginners, all you have to do is find a product you like and click promote.  Clickbank will create a customized link with your affiliate id in it so it can track when someone buys a product from your link. A lot of products have their own affiliate section, where you can log in and find premade banner ads, twitter responses, and emails to help you sell the product.  You can choose to use those or write your own, either way, <strong>you’ll be making a lot of money!</strong>

Commission Junction

Commission Junction works pretty much the same way Clickbank does, it just offers different items.  Clickbank has more digital items and Commission Junction has more tangible items.  Commission Junction has a lot of recognizable brand names like GoDaddy, Carbonite, 1-800-Contacts, but generally offers lower commission percentages. It can even out though, because the brand names have more recognition and are perceived as more trustworthy because of their recognition. So someone may be more likely to click your ad.  So I like to mix it up and promote from both sites.

Amazon

While it is a little, different, it is worth mentioning that amazon also pays commission for referring people who buy products.  They even allow a way to set up a store where you own the website, but when someone clicks buy, it takes them to Amazon to handle the shipping and credit cards and everything.  You make 4%-15% of the sale price, using a performance based sliding scale.  The more you sell, the bigger your commission. This can be useful if there is a particular item that is relevant to your blog.  For example if you wrote a running blog, you could create an ad for each individual item. The reader could then go to Amazon and purchase that item and you would get credit for the sale.  This method is not as commonly used in blogging, it is more often used when creating niche stores (which I will explain in another post.)

No Leakage

Michael Dunlop at The Income Diary has a “No Leakage Rule.”  This rule means that any link leaving your site should make you money.  Never link to a product unless you make commission from it.  While getting your site linked on other blogs can get you traffic, a lot of times they are direct competitors so be careful.

Summary

Now you have a few good ideas for starting to make money from your blog.  You don’t have to choose only one of these and I would recommend you do not limit yourself like that.  I would recommend you get a few good products from each and start promoting.  Wait until you have about 100 clicks on each product before you decide it doesn’t work and move on to another.  Eventually, when your blog becomes popular and is consistently getting thousands of hits a day, advertisers will want to pay you directly for your ad space. But for now, just focus on creating new, valuable content that will keep users coming back.

The internet has created new opportunities to make extra cash that were previously unheard of just a few years ago. The following is a strategy you can learn to make money online for free that can yield some terrific results.

Learn How to Make Money Online With Article Marketing

If you can write, you can make money on the internet! One great strategy you can learn to make money online that is cheap or free to do is article marketing. The idea behind article marketing is exactly like it sounds: you write articles to promote products or services, and when those products or services sell, you make a commission. Sounds easy, right? It is pretty easy, and typically free to do, but it does take a little work to begin generating a good income. This strategy is not a get-rich-quick plan, but if you’re willing to put in the work, you can get some great results out of it.

Before you can start making money with article marketing, you need to find products to promote. Thanks to the internet, you literally have access to thousands – or even millions – of products you can begin promoting today through programs such as Amazon Associates, ClickBank, and Commission Junction. The Amazon Associates program is great because it gives you access to pretty much Amazon’s entire product line. The products on ClickBank and Commission Junction tend to be knowledge products, or “how to” products, in the form of e-books. E-books can be great to promote because they often will allow you to earn residual income in addition to your initial commission.

Once you’ve found a product to promote, begin looking for keyword niches with low competition that relate to the product. You’re not looking for keywords that generate a huge amount of traffic, as in the hundreds of thousands of searches per month, but smaller niches with a relatively low number of searches per month and low competition so that your articles will have a better chance of ranking higher in the search results for those keywords. A great tool that I like to use for finding keyword niches is the Google Keyword Tool.

Once you’ve found a few keyword niches to target, begin writing articles targeting the keywords. The goal is to optimize your articles as much as possible for your keywords, so make sure to use your keywords in the article title and throughout the opening paragraph and body. However, don’t overdo it! If you try to stuff your articles with keywords in an unnatural way, you may not get your articles published. Make sure to use your keywords throughout your articles, but use normal English to do it.

Once you have a good keyword rich article, submit a unique version of it to multiple article directories such as EzineArticles, ArticlesBase, HubPages, etc. It may be tempting to submit the exact same article to a bunch of directories, but don’t do this! Because Google is always striving to provide the best possible search service, it automatically removes duplicates from its search results. If you have 10 copies of the same article online, chances are Google will only display one of them in the search results. You want to create a unique article for each directory you’re submitting to. It might sound like a lot of work – and it can be – but the work is worth the effort because it will yield the best results for your marketing efforts.

Depending on the article directory, you may or may not be able to directly promote your product in the article body. Some article directories allow you to link to the products or websites you are promoting directly in the article body, but others may only allow you to link in the signature box. Other directories may restrict the types of products you can promote. Be sure to take the time to understand the publishing guidelines of each article directory you’re submitting to.

Once you’ve gotten a number of keyword optimized articles online in various article marketing directories, your efforts will start to pay off in the form of traffic and eyeballs on the products you’re promoting. Again, you’re not necessarily getting tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of searches per month, but you don’t need that many to make some decent money. Once you’ve mastered how to market to one niche market and have generated some good results, find another niche market and begin working that one as well. Rinse and repeat again and again! Before long, your article marketing efforts may very well begin to generate some serious income.

You have probably heard about people making a living off blogging or through their websites. You might have heard this is easy and that all you have to do is read such and such a book and do this or that and you’ll be making money within a week or sooner. I am here to tell you that this will most likely not happen, and if you seek a handout your income will be temporary at best.

Go to google.com and type in the search box “keyword tool”, then click on google’s keyword tool, it should be the top result. Research your topics of interest and find the keywords with the highest search volume and the highest relative competition. High competition believe it or not is good. Google’s competition rating is a measure of how much people and businesses are willing to bid for clicks for that particular keyword. If people and businesses are paying a lot in general for those clicks, then that means people are in the mindset of spending money when they include those keywords in their searches. If you plan on making money with your blog then you have to approach the people who are looking to spend some money versus the people who are just ‘looking’ for information. Also, if you plan on earning money with Google AdSense then the highest competition will earn you the most per ad click. Some clicks will pay you as much as 4 dollars, but if you don’t go for the highest competition keywords then your ad clicks will earn you as low as $0.01 per click, which is just sad. So go for the competition, don’t avoid it. That ‘secret niche’ that has minimal competition but highly profitable visitors is most likely one of those too good to be true things.

After you have a list of keywords that people are actually using in their searches keep it handy. When you start writing for your blog you want to use those words rather than whatever comes to mind. If you don’t use the words that other people are using then most likely you won’t get a lot of organic (unpaid) visitors.

When writing your meta description, make it about 160 characters at most since this is what is generally displayed on the search results pages of the major search engines. Don’t freak out about the number of times you’ve written a keyword and if it is at the beginning or end, just write a legitimate brief description that will draw the visitor in. SEO these days is simply about developing pages that help people find what they are looking for, not about tricking the search engines. As long as you keep your keyword list handy while you write and you use those words in your writing, and you write to help people then you will automatically be optimized for the search engines. When you ‘tag’ your posts use at most 5 tags, even so try to stay under 3 tags for any given post/page.
