How To Get More Website Traffic

It used to be that you could actually get more website traffic by simply throwing a bunch of good keyword search phrases on your pages and in the HTML “tags.” Of course search engines got better, and so the “experts” began to tell us that we just needed high-quality content. “Build it and they will come,” became the operating theory of many.

Of course, it just wasn’t true. You still needed to optimize the pages. After all, if your page was about ultralight backpacking, how would the search engines know that if you didn’t use the phrase a few times on the page? And if you preferred to call it “fastpacking,” there was never a way for all those searchers of “ultralight backpacking” to find your page – even if it was exactly the content they wanted.

So optimization still matters. But when the search engine algorithms changed again they began to place less emphasis on “on site” optimization. You still need those keywords on the page, but this is no longer enough. You also need to have other sites linking to yours, to show that you are important. Links have become very important if you want more website traffic from search engines.

The type of link matters though. Reciprocal links – where you trade with another site – are no longer of much value. Search engine algorithms have been adjusted for the fact that sites started trading irrelevant links just to boost rankings. Only one-way unpaid links are considered a true “vote of confidence” by the search engines, and so these are what you need.

Now, some experts still claim that you get links by having great content. People read your page, like it and so link to it. That would be nice, but it isn’t common at all. In fact, there are several things wrong with this theory.

First, how do the readers find your page to begin with, so they can then decide they like it enough to link to it? If you have no incoming links, the search engines ignore you, so how does anyone find the page? Secondly, if some visitors do make their way to your pages, will they have websites to link to you from? Most internet users either don’t have a website or they barely know how to create a link.

Finally, serious webmasters are hesitant to link to other sites too often now. Why? They don’t want to link to possible competition for starters. But the bigger reason is that a given page can only has just so much “voting power” according to search engine algorithms, so owners of sites like to divide it up in beneficial ways – like by linking to their own pages and sites.

So getting incoming links is the way to get more website traffic, but they are hard to get. What can you do? You can pay for traffic, but with many sites this is impractical. If your site makes ten cents per visitor and you pay fifty cents to get one, you are just throwing your money away.

Now, before I answer the question of how to get more traffic, let me add an encouraging note. Contrary to what some are saying, good content is not irrelevant now. Don’t listen to the skeptics. I recently read an opinion piece by a webmaster who said the old idea of “building a great website with great content” in order to get traffic was “foolish nonsense.” It isn’t.

What do we want when we search for things online? We want great websites with great content, right? That is exactly what the search engines are trying to point us too. The fact that they don’t do it perfectly doesn’t mean they aren’t getting better at it. So as they get continue to improve, you want to have the kind of site that they are looking for. If you’re thinking long term, have good content.

Finally, one of the best ways I have found to generate more website traffic is with simple articles like this one. Submit it to a few article directories, and you’ll get some readers. If they like it, some will even take it and use it on their websites, creating valuable one-way links. That helps with your search engine rankings. Meanwhile, some readers will like it enough to want more, and they’ll click that link in your resource or “about the author” box at the end of the article.

A good site description will make potential buyers feel comfortable in bidding on your web site. The more you can tell a potential buyer, the more potential buyers you will have. State Your Revenue

The simple majority of website buyers are looking for revenue-generating properties.

State your revenue numbers up-front and you won’t have to deal with a steady stream of questions regarding those numbers during the sale.

On the other hand, if you are selling the web site and exclusive rights to the content — mention that too. That can significantly raise the price of the web site.

WordPress Goldmine Review And Unconventional Bonus

Is WordPress Goldmine an unconventional SCAM? It’s perhaps one of the weirdest sales pages I have ever seen in the world of Internet Marketing. The sales page has the following headline…

“This is No Coventional Sales Page Because This is No Conventional Product”

Then, followed by a 7 minutes video telling you WHAT exactly you’re going to get inside the WordPress Goldmine package, an unconventional way of accessing and downloading the package after your purchase, and a couple of testimonials.

In the Internet Marketing world, normally you’ll see loads of HYPE and outrageous claims in the sales letters but you won’t find any of this in WP Goldmine’s sales page. That’s why it catched my attention.

Usually, I don’t pay much attention to WordPress guides. This is because I’m very familiar with WP and I find many information related to WP can easily be obtained for free (you just need to spend a little time searching the web).

Anyway, since it’s such an unconventional sales page and has a 60-day 100% money back guarantee, I got to give it a try and see what is it all about. So I bought WordPress Goldmine and here is my honest review.

WordPress Goldmine is written by Mark Thompson. The main guide is 128 pages long and divided into 5 parts. For those who are familiar with WP can skip or just skim through part 1 as it’s very basic. It shows you how to install WP, change the default settings, change the permalink structure (for SEO friendly purposes), set up the ping list, install new theme, install essential plugins, etc. Nothing is new to me in part 1.

In part 2, it discusses about CONTENT or what and how to add the right content. Essentially, it discusses about prewritten PLR articles and write-your-own articles. No matter where you get your content, it advises us to make our content UNIQUE. Because unique content is the linchpin for getting free organic traffic from the search engines.

Again, nothing is new for me so far. However, there is one thing that’s new to me in part 2, that’s a UAW WordPress Plugins that allows you to get unique content to your blog on auto pilot. I personnaly have NOT try this plugins so I can’t comment too much on this. And, I don’t think I want to try it in my existing blog. If I were to try it later, I would try it on a NEW blog as I don’t trust anything that sounds too good to be true.

Part 3 – Monetization. This is where WordPress Goldmine really shines. This is where it shows its real muscles. You’ll learn the various ways of monetizing or making money with your WordPress blog. The author provides indepth information on how he made $15,000 through just ONE blog post. You not only will see one of his LIVE blogs but he also shows you how you can follow his plan and set up similar blogs.

In my humble opinion, part 3 is perhaps the section that offers you most value for money! Even if you’re a very experienced WP user, I’ll guarantee that you’ll pick up something new here.

BUT, it gets better! In part 4, you’ll learn the author’s secret Traffic Generation System, how he gets organic traffic for FREE (no PPC ad costs, no buying traffic). You’ll also receive an easy to follow diagram that shows you all the steps and sites the author uses to generate free traffic to his blogs. If you follow and implement the WordPress Goldmine’s traffic generation system, the potential result for your site is immense.

I really thought that the guide should have concluded after part 4 but it doesn’t. It the final section (part 5), it shows you the advanced techniques the author uses to promote his blogs. However, the author strongly urges us to have created at least two blogs and apply all the methods taught in the previous sections before trying to learn the advance methods.

I agree! If you read WordPress Goldmine, you should master the basics first and then come back and tackle the advanced stuffs. Trust me on this, it will be a lot more effective if you can master the methods in previous sections first before moving on to part 5.

Last But Not Least

Identifying your target customer starts with brainstorming your ideas and identifying a Niche Product(s).  These Niche Products should come from your passions and are narrowed down into unique specific offering that may not be widely carried in the current marketplace.   

By focusing in on a potential customer that would have the unique needs, wants and desires that this product would resolve, you can begin to identify your “target customer group”. What type of consumer needs this type of product?  Will they be – men, women, children, teens, seniors, executives, working moms, people with medial needs etc. etc.   

Understanding your target group can help you further narrow your Niche product to match closely with their specific demand. 

You should utilize all resources online to find out as much as possible about your ideas and areas of passion.  Are these areas being serviced online?  Check out all possible combinations of words when doing a search on Google.  Check out the results and open those sites.  What are they selling – what services do they provide.   

This will help you understand if any of your defined areas of interest are currently serviced.  If they are, you must continue to narrow down further to a more specific focus.  Once you find a product area that is not well serviced by the market; and you have a target group in mind, now you can build your business towards servicing this group. 

To bring all this together requires thought, lots of thought.  It requires that you write all your ideas down, work and re-work through all the possibilities.  Understand what you can uniquely bring to the marketplace and more importantly what you can uniquely bring to a specific target group. 

Knowing your target group is just one more step in building a successful ebusiness plan.

A Unique Selling Position (USP) is defined as the distinctive selling proposition that identifies your product and sets it apart from your competition in the marketplace.   

If you are struggling to identify a Niche Market that will work for you, it’s important to break down this process before you can identify your USP.  

- First your need to find a Perfect Niche that identifies your passions and unique abilities.  That usually comes from some intense brainstorming and narrowing down areas that your have experience in, or a natural talent for.   

- Once you have gone through the brainstorming sessions to identify your unique passions and interests, write down your ideas about who your ideal customer and target groups would be and remember to focus on areas that are currently not well serviced in the marketplace.

Your USP should take your Niche Product and identify what it does that addresses a need not filled by your competition. 

To become the “go to authority” on a particular product or service, it is not enough to just identify something that you are passionate about.  Just knowing about the type of customer who would have interest in your product will not sell the product.  You must clearly identify that there is a need for this product and that you have a unique offering that is different or better than your competition.

But before the final download step, one has to confirm the email details. All of this could be prevented if the download page presented immediately after purchase.

Hypey Copy That Converts and How to Write it

I love hypey copy.
  
Hypey copy is like a fine wine. It has great legs, a fine body and a rich nose.
 
Hype excites the emotions, stimulates the buying glands and ultimately converts better than dull, drab, “only the facts ma’am” marcom-style copy.
 
Marketers and consumers who bemoan the ugliness, the crassness, and the used-car-salesman look and feel of hypey copy are all uneducated and uninformed dolts
 
All of the above, though mostly true, is a form of hypey copy… of the bad kind.
 
How to differentiate bad from good hype
 
Hype has many guises or nuances. Unfortunately, today, hype has become an indiscriminate catch-all-phrase for any type of copy that anyone objects to, for whatever reason.
 
Well, if beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so too is hype.
 
And so, for ease of understanding and with a bow to those who either adore or loathe hype–I will divide hype into two broad categories:
 
Hype that always converts and hype that rarely will
 
We’ve all been exposed to copy that exclaims in absolutely superlative fashion the benefits of an advertised product.
 
For example, we’re constantly bombarded by hypey modifiers screaming: best, biggest, fastest, easiest, greatest, amazing, unique, revolutionary… and so forth
 
And then there’s the army of entertaining and flamboyant similes and metaphors: “so powerful it’ll suck the chrome off a trailer hitch”, and “faster than a streaker running down-field at the Super Bowl”.
 
And, finally, the ever obligatory and tired: “your income will skyrocket” or “you’ll feel like a teenager again”.
 
Of course, these examples stand out as hype–primarily because they’re easily recognized as less than believable, factual or authoritative. And are, therefore, quickly discounted and ignored by most consumers.
 
But yet, there’s nothing intrinsically wrong with employing such words and phrases to extol the virtues of a product.
 
If indeed they’re accurate descriptions.
 
Where we run into problems though–and where hype gets a black eye, is when hype stands by itself–naked and exposed to ever-vigilant consumer skepticism.
 
How to turn bad hype into good hype
 
If you were to write within an ad, either in the headline, body copy or as a subhead, the following: All your wrinkles will miraculously disappear overnight!
 
Do you think such a claim will be believed or, more importantly, that the ad containing it will convert?
 
Personally, I doubt it.
 
Even if the remainder of the ad were written impeccably–and by impeccably, I mean, you immediately provide undeniable, authoritative proof, confirming that wrinkles will indeed disappear overnight–that claim will still be the rusty nail that blows out the ad’s tires.
 
Of course it might gain your ad a moment’s fleeting attention–but the ad itself won’t convert, because the remainder of the ad, much less its call to action, probably won’t be read. 
 
But now you protest and say: I provided proof–it’s true, absolutely true–so why wouldn’t it be believed–why wouldn’t it convert?
 
Well, proof and credibility are of course essential to any claim in any ad–without it you clearly have written hype of the bad kind.
 
But even with proof–if the proof is not “placed” wisely–it’ll be ignored–as will be the ad.
 
The consumer is not an idiot–she’s your wife
 
…to quote David Ogilvy.
 
Consumers learn quickly–they have to. By one account, the average American is deluged with over 5,000 advertisements in one form or another every single day.
 
And, it’s probably fair to say, most of these ads are poorly presented, either in concept, design or execution.
 
Hence, the unavoidable consequence: skepticism and disbelief abounds in the marketplace.
 
So… while in the past, making a claim and immediately following it up with proof may have been a wise, prudent and necessary tack to take–times have now changed.

And marketers must adapt.

 
No longer do you, as a marketer, have the luxury, or more to the point–the time to prove your claim–once you make it.
 
Avoid the ad-killing claim
 
…by making it instead an unavoidable conclusion.
 
While the following is not an inviolate rule–it’s certainly worth testing…
 
Before making any concise and memorable claim to unparalleled excellence—prove it first.
 
Assemble and present your credentialing elements, your evidence–your entire body of incontrovertible proof–in clear and linear fashion.
 
Allow your proof to lay the groundwork for what is to come. Create strong and overwhelming direction and momentum.
 
In other words…
 
Ambush your customer
 
…So that when you finally do present your hype–your claim to have the biggest, baddest, best product on the planet–it won’t be mistaken for or accused of being hype (of the bad kind)…
 
…But rather it will be seen as a descriptive and accurate statement of the obvious and the proven (hype of the good kind).
 
If executed skillfully, your hype will also have the added benefit of becoming  sustainable and actionable.

And that’s the best hype of all–when your customer agrees with–acts upon–and even advocates on behalf of–what otherwise would have been a wild and unbelievable claim.

Article Marketing: Turn Your Articles Into an E-book in 7 Easy Steps

Writing an e-book is more simple than you might imagine, especially when you’re doing article marketing.

Each article that you write can serve more than one purpose–it can be a free reprint article that drives traffic to your website, but it can also be used in the creation of an e-book.

If you’re an article marketing veteran, then you probably already have enough content for an e-book. If you’re just starting out, then you can follow the steps below and use them as a guideline for creating articles that are suitable to put in an e-book.

Either way, you’re just a few steps away from morphing your articles into an e-book:

1) What will your e-book be about?

When you’re creating an e-book, you need to have a topic that correlates to your website (just as your articles are always on the topic of your website), but you need to pin down a specific topic.

If you’re a financial adviser, perhaps your e-book would be about how to get out of debt.

If you’re a dietitian, perhaps your book would be about transitioning to eating a heart healthy diet.

You get the idea–pick a theme that is broad enough that it’s worthy of being the topic of a book, but narrow enough that you can cover all your points without writing hundreds of pages (unless that’s the type of e-book you’d like to create!).

Sometimes it helps to think in terms of titles–come up with a working title for your book to help you decide what the topic will be.

2) Create an outline.

3) Organize your articles to fill in your outline.

I would advise you to make it subtle and remember that the point of the book is to convey educational information to your reader, rather than to make a sale (although sales are a natural by-product of the e-book).

5) Write an introduction.

In your introduction to your book, you will tell the reader what they can expect from the book and what is to be gained. I usually advise the reader to print the book out so that they can read it like a real book (it’s easier on the eyes and also makes it so the book is an easily accessible resource later on).

6) Write a conclusion.

In your conclusion you would invite readers to ask you questions, give contact info for yourself, and give a link to your website. If you’re selling anything related to the topic of the e-book, then give a link to that product.

7) Then, all you need to do is put the book into PDF form, and decide how you’ll use it!

There are many uses for an e-book:

*You can offer it in your resource box as a reason to click through to your website. For example: “Claim your free e-book on this topic at [your URL]“

*Offer it as a free download on your website. That way, you have a gift waiting for any visitors. This is also a great way to build your list–before delivering the e-book you could capture the visitor’s email address and send the e-book to their inbox.

*Send the e-book to people already on your list–I’m sure they would appreciate it!

*Possibly sell your e-book (if it’s really good, why not?).
